A single hair transplant graft in Turkey costs about $1.15 on average, within a range of roughly $0.80 to $2.50, depending on the clinic and the size of the operation. That is far below £2.40 to £4.00 per graft in the United Kingdom and $4 to $7 per graft in the United States. In practice, a 3,000-graft operation in Turkey typically costs $2,700 to $4,000, and the cost per graft falls as the number of grafts rises. At Smile Hair Clinic, packages have a fixed price whatever the graft count, so the doctor plans exactly the number of grafts your donor area can safely give.
I am Dr. Mehmet Erdoğan, co-founder of Smile Hair Clinic in Istanbul, president of SAÇREHDER and a member of FUE Europe and the World FUE Institute, with more than 5,000 hair transplant procedures behind me. Graft numbers are the most quoted figure in hair transplant marketing and the most misunderstood. This page explains what a graft is, what it costs in Turkey and abroad, how many you are likely to need and why the cheapest graft is not always the best value. The full price picture, including packages and travel, is on the hair transplant Turkey cost page.

How Much Does One Hair Transplant Graft Cost in Turkey?
When Turkish package prices are divided by the number of grafts, one graft costs about $1.15 on average, and most clinics fall between $0.80 and $2.50. The figure is higher for small operations, because the fixed parts of the package, such as the hotel, transfers, blood tests and aftercare, are shared across fewer grafts.

| Country | Typical cost per graft | What the price usually covers |
|---|---|---|
| Turkey | $0.80 to $2.50 (average about $1.15) | Operation, hotel, transfers, medication and aftercare |
| United Kingdom | £2.40 to £4.00 | Operation only |
| United States | $4 to $7 | Operation only |
| Canada | CA$5.50 to CA$9.50 | Operation only |
| Australia | AU$5.00 to AU$9.00 | Operation only |
| Western Europe | €2.30 to €4.10 | Operation only |
The comparison is even more favourable than it looks. A Turkish graft price usually includes the whole stay, while a graft price in London or New York covers only the surgery.
What Exactly Is a Graft?
A graft is a follicular unit, a small natural group of 1 to 4 hairs that grow together from the same spot in the scalp. During FUE, each unit is extracted whole from the donor area at the back and sides of the head and placed in the thinning area. Single-hair grafts are used at the front of the hairline for a soft, natural edge, while grafts with 2 to 4 hairs build density behind it.
This is why grafts and hairs are not the same number. Most patients carry about two hairs per graft on average, so 3,000 grafts usually means roughly 6,000 to 7,000 hairs. Some clinics quote the number of hairs because it sounds larger. Always ask whether a quote is for grafts or hairs, because only grafts can be compared between clinics.
How Much Do 1,000 to 5,000 Grafts Cost in Turkey?
At clinics that adjust the price to the size of the operation, 1,000 grafts typically cost $2,000 to $2,500 and 5,000 grafts $4,000 to $5,500 in Turkey. The table shows each step with the matching prices in the United Kingdom and the United States, together with the effective cost of one graft in Turkey.

| Number of grafts | Turkey | Cost per graft in Turkey | United Kingdom | United States |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1,000 grafts | $2,000 to $2,500 | $2.00 to $2.50 | £2,400 to £4,000 | $4,000 to $7,000 |
| 2,000 grafts | $2,200 to $3,200 | $1.10 to $1.60 | £4,800 to £8,000 | $8,000 to $14,000 |
| 3,000 grafts | $2,700 to $4,000 | $0.90 to $1.33 | £7,200 to £12,000 | $12,000 to $21,000 |
| 4,000 grafts | $3,400 to $4,600 | $0.85 to $1.15 | £9,600 to £16,000 | $16,000 to $28,000 |
| 5,000 grafts | $4,000 to $5,500 | $0.80 to $1.10 | £12,000 to £20,000 | $20,000 to $35,000 |
Abroad, the price grows almost in a straight line with every graft. In Turkey, the cost of one graft drops by more than half between 1,000 and 5,000 grafts, which is why the saving is largest for patients who need a big operation.

Is Per-Graft Pricing or Package Pricing Better?
For most patients, a fixed package price is the safer model. With per-graft pricing, every extra graft adds to the bill, so the clinic has a reason to recommend more grafts than you need and you have a reason to ask for fewer than you should. With a fixed package, the number of grafts becomes a purely medical decision.
| Per-graft pricing | Fixed package pricing | |
|---|---|---|
| How the price is set | Number of grafts multiplied by a graft price | One price for the whole operation and stay |
| Price certainty before you travel | The final count may change the bill | The price is fixed in advance |
| Incentive on graft numbers | More grafts mean a higher bill | The doctor plans only what you need |
| Best suited for | Small, clearly defined touch-ups | Most hairline, crown and full restorations |
| Common in | The UK, the US and some Turkish clinics | Most accredited Turkish clinics |
In the video below, I explain the difference between per-graft and package pricing, and why the plan should always come before the price. The video starts at that part of the explanation.
What Does One Graft Cost in a Smile Hair Clinic Package?
Because our packages have a fixed price, the effective cost of one graft depends on how many grafts your plan needs. The table shows what one graft works out to for typical operation sizes. Dollar figures are approximate and follow the euro exchange rate.

| Grafts in your plan | Gold (€2,390) | Platinum (€3,290) | Diamond (€5,790) |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2,000 grafts | $1.37 (€1.20) | $1.89 (€1.65) | $3.33 (€2.90) |
| 3,000 grafts | $0.92 (€0.80) | $1.26 (€1.10) | $2.22 (€1.93) |
| 4,000 grafts | $0.69 (€0.60) | $0.95 (€0.82) | $1.66 (€1.45) |
This does not mean a patient should aim for more grafts to lower the cost per graft. The number of grafts is set by the doctor according to your donor area and your hair loss, never by the price. What changes between the packages is who performs the critical steps, which is explained on the hair transplant Turkey package page.
How Many Grafts Will You Need?
The number of grafts depends mainly on the stage of your hair loss, the density you want and the quality of your donor area. The ranges below are typical for men, and the final number is always confirmed after your donor area is examined.

| Stage of hair loss | Typical number of grafts | Typical cost in Turkey |
|---|---|---|
| Norwood Type 2, mild recession at the temples | 1,000 to 1,500 | $2,000 to $2,800 |
| Norwood Type 3, deeper recession at the front | 1,500 to 2,500 | $2,100 to $3,600 |
| Norwood Type 4, front and early crown loss | 2,500 to 3,500 | $2,500 to $4,300 |
| Norwood Type 5, front and crown with a thinning bridge | 3,500 to 4,500 | $3,000 to $5,000 |
| Norwood Type 6 and Norwood Type 7, advanced loss | 4,500 or more | $3,700 to $5,500, sometimes in two sessions |
Women usually need fewer grafts because their hair loss is more often diffuse thinning than a bald area. You can read more on the female hair transplant page. In the video below, Dr. Firdavs Ahmedov follows Scott through a 4,300-graft operation.
How Many Grafts Can Your Donor Area Give?
Your donor area sets the real limit on how many grafts you can have, both in one session and over your lifetime. Only part of the follicles in the donor area can be removed before it starts to look thin, so a careful doctor spreads extraction evenly and keeps a reserve for the future. In most men, a single session takes a few thousand grafts, and very large restorations are split into two sessions about a year apart.
When the scalp donor is not enough, beard or chest hair can add extra grafts. You can read how this works on the body hair transplant page. In our FAQ video, the part below explains what a limited donor area means for your plan.
Why Can a Very Cheap Graft End Up Costing More?
A graft only has value if it grows. A graft that is damaged during extraction, left too long outside the body or placed at the wrong angle is a graft you paid for and lost, and it also used up part of a donor area that cannot be replaced. Very low graft prices usually mean a team working on many patients a day, with technicians performing most steps.
Be especially cautious with promises of “unlimited” or “maximum” grafts. Removing too many grafts in one session can leave the donor area visibly thin, and repairing an overharvested donor area or a poor result costs far more than doing it well the first time. At Smile Hair Clinic, each doctor operates on no more than two patients a day, which keeps every graft under close control.
Does the Technique Change the Cost per Graft?
Only a little. Most Turkish clinics charge slightly more for techniques that take longer, such as DHI, unshaven and Long FUE work, while sapphire FUE and manual FUE are usually priced as standard. At Smile Hair Clinic, the technique does not change the package price, because the doctor chooses it according to your hair rather than your budget.
Body hair grafts are the one common extra. At Smile Hair Clinic, adding beard hair costs €150 (about $170), and beard and chest hair together €250 (about $280) on top of the package.
How Is Your Graft Count Decided and Confirmed?
The graft count is decided in two steps. First, our team estimates the number from your photos and recommends a plan. Then, at your face-to-face consultation, the doctor examines your donor area, draws your hairline and confirms the final plan before the operation. Because our package price is fixed, this final number never changes what you pay.
In the video below, I examine a patient’s donor area and plan a 4,600-graft operation during his consultation.

Is a graft the same as a hair?
No. A graft contains 1 to 4 hairs, usually about two, so always check whether a quote counts grafts or hairs.
Why is the cost per graft so much lower in Turkey?
Lower running costs, a weaker lira and package pricing mean the same operation costs several times less than in the UK or the US.
Does Smile Hair Clinic charge per graft?
No. Our packages have a fixed price, and the number of grafts is a medical decision that does not change what you pay.
Can I ask for more grafts to get better value?
No. Your donor area is limited, so the doctor transplants only what your hair loss needs and keeps a safe reserve for the future.
What is the maximum number of grafts in one session?
It depends on your donor area. Large restorations are often split into two sessions rather than taking too many grafts at once.
Will I know how many grafts I received?
Yes. Your doctor confirms the plan before the operation and tells you the number of grafts transplanted.
